General Policies

MATERIALS  Doing musical activities with a parent is crucial to your child?s musical development and it creates wonderful childhood memories for both of you.  KM?s licensing agreement requires that we sell home materials to each student. The non-refundable materials fee is a SEPARATE PAYMENT made directly to Margaret?s Music Studio on the first day of class. Checks only, please ? no cash.  CANCELLATIONS - In case of bad weather, we usually follow the lead of Birmingham Public Schools.  Check your email in the morning to get KM cancellation information.  You may also contact The Community House  (www.communityhouse.com), (248-644-5832) or the B?ham YMCA (248-644-9036) to see if classes are cancelled.   A canceled class is either 1) made up at the end of the semester, 2) treated as a credit, or 3) refunded.

SAFETY  It is important that all children feel safe in Kindermusik and that every child understands that throwing and pushing are never allowed.  Please be very firm with your child on this issue.  Of course, we will always be available to discuss these matters in person, on the phone, or by e-mail.  Sometimes a very young toddler will throw an egg, thinking it is like a ball.  A gentle admonition is usually all that is necessary in that case.

 

Imagine That and Young Child caregivers: Please do not leave the hallway when your child is in class.

 

 

HEALTH Clear, runny noses are allowed, but not noses with yellow or green discharge.  Sneezing and coughing children should not attend class.  If your child has (non-contagious) allergies, please inform me in advance.

GUESTS  Adult guests are welcome, as well as (quiet) babies in strollers.  Older children may not attend regularly ? an occasional visit is OK, if they can sit quietly in a corner.  CRYING OR OTHERWISE DISTRACTING CHILDREN  After about 20 seconds of crying, please try to remove your crying child until he is calmed down. TALKATIVE GROWNUPS!!!  We are so glad you are making friends in Kindermusik.  But please model appropriate classroom behavior for your child.  A few comments to your neighbor is fine.  But a whole conversation is inconsiderate to all of us. FOOD AND TOYS  Keep food and toys hidden away during class.  They can be very distracting, especially for the older students (babies don?t seem to notice as much).  Mothers of babies are permitted to nurse.  Also, remove the pacifier!  You want your child to be free to sing and vocalize. PROMPTNESS  Even very young children know when they are arriving late to class.  This can cause your child to be withdrawn and clingy, and she then does not get as much out of the experience. BATHROOM  Please, please take potty-trained children to the potty before class!  A potty break in the middle of class causes your child to miss something important. Studio Refund Policy
Deposits are not refundable, but tuition and materials fees are refundable if we are notified in writing or by email 2 weeks prior to the start of the class.

Kindermusik Refund Policy

Materials fees are non-refundable.  Tuition is not refundable after the second week, except in extreme circumstances.
